Learning Goals for Jan 23 – 27

Hello all! January is winding down, how is that possible? We are working so hard in 3rd grade! These kiddos make Mrs. Tatum and I so proud, each and every day!

This week in Reading: We will be working on using informational text to draw conclusions and make inferences, as well as grow our vocabulary. We will concentrate on these words: bask, dull, sleek, ambush, dappled, sensors, pits, vise-like, digest, slit, hatchlings and discarded. These words come from the story “Python”. Students will be tested on these words at the end of the week. We are also working through passages that require editing and revising as well. This will also be a grade this week.

Language Arts/ Spelling/ Writing: Students will continue to write informational text, joining learning from their Science class. Spelling will consist of using phonics during their writing. This has been a gap that we have worked on all year long. Phoneme knowledge is very important, especially since students will be graded on spelling on state tests.

Social Studies: This week, we will learn about Lunar New year, as well as more work on Budgets. Budget vocabulary will consist of: discount, online shopping, tip, sales tax, budget, expenses, credit cards, ATM, salary, receipt, checking account, check, bank, income, bills, and paycheck.

Important Dates:

Monday, Jan. 23rd – PTO meeting @ 6pm

Wednesday, Jan. 25th – Early release for all students @ 11:30am
